Insurance Software Development

Legacy policy systems and paper-heavy claims make insurance slow and costly to run - PixoBots builds insurance software that cuts that friction: policy administration, automated claims, data-driven underwriting and fraud detection, with secure customer and agent portals and integration into your core systems. Our dedicated developers use AI tools to speed up rating-rule implementation, legacy data migration and test coverage, and review every AI-assisted change.

How a modern policy administration system fits together

A policy administration system is really several engines that share one policy record. A product configurator defines coverages, limits, deductibles and eligibility; a rating engine turns risk attributes into a premium; a rules layer decides what can be quoted automatically and what needs referral; a document service produces schedules, wordings and endorsements; and a billing component handles instalments, adjustments and cancellations.

The design decision that matters most is keeping product definitions as data rather than code. When rates, rating factors and eligibility rules live in versioned configuration, a product team can launch a new variant or adjust a rate table without a full release cycle - and every policy can be traced back to the exact rule version that priced it. We also model mid-term adjustments, renewals and reinstatements explicitly, because those transactions are where hand-built systems usually break.

Underwriting rules and claims workflows

Most insurers want straight-through processing for simple risks and human judgement for complex ones. A rules engine evaluates each submission against appetite, authority limits and data checks, then issues a quote, declines with a reason, or refers the case to an underwriter with the triggering rules highlighted. Where risk-scoring models are used, we keep them explainable and separate from the deterministic rules, so every decision can be reviewed and challenged.

Claims follow a similar pattern. First notice of loss is captured once - online, by an agent or through a call-centre screen - then documents and photos are attached, coverage is checked against the policy version in force on the loss date, and the claim is triaged. Low-value, low-complexity claims can move to payment with minimal handling; anything with coverage questions, injury, litigation or fraud indicators is routed to an adjuster with reserves, notes, tasks and correspondence in one file.

Integrating with legacy core systems without a big-bang replacement

Many insurers run policy, billing or claims on core platforms that are decades old and still hold the system of record. Replacing them in one step is high-risk. A safer path is incremental: put an API layer in front of the legacy core, build new broker and customer portals or a new product line against that layer, and migrate products or books of business one at a time while both systems run side by side.

Practical integration work often means batch files, message queues or database-level change capture rather than clean APIs, plus careful reconciliation so premiums, claims reserves and commissions agree across systems. Data migration needs its own plan - mapping historical policy versions, open claims and payment history - with dry runs and sign-off before any cutover.

Data protection, auditability and broker access

Insurance platforms hold sensitive personal data, and claims files can include health, financial or legal information. We design for least-privilege access by role, encryption in transit and at rest, field-level masking for sensitive attributes, and retention rules that reflect the data-protection laws of the markets you operate in, such as GDPR in Europe.

Equally important is a complete audit trail: who quoted, changed, approved or paid what, and under which rule version. That history supports regulatory reporting, complaints handling and internal audit. Broker and agent portals get their own permission model so each intermediary sees only its own business, commissions and documents.

Frequently asked questions

What insurance software do you build? expand_more
Policy administration systems, automated claims processing, underwriting and risk-scoring tools, fraud detection, and customer and agent portals - for insurers, brokers and InsurTech startups.
Can you automate claims processing? expand_more
Yes. We automate intake, document capture, triage and straight-through payouts for simple claims, while routing complex cases to adjusters - cutting cycle time significantly.
How do you handle security and compliance? expand_more
We engineer to security-first standards with encryption, access controls and audit trails, and build to meet the regulatory and data-protection requirements of your markets.
Can you integrate with our core systems? expand_more
Yes - we integrate with core policy, billing and CRM platforms and payment gateways so data flows cleanly without rip-and-replace.
Should we replace our core insurance system or build around it? expand_more
In most cases, build around it first. Wrapping the legacy core with APIs lets you launch new portals, products and automation sooner, then migrate lines of business gradually - which keeps risk lower than a single big-bang replacement.
What does an insurance software project typically involve? expand_more
Typically a discovery phase to map products, rules and integrations, then iterative delivery of the highest-value workflow first - often quoting or first notice of loss - followed by further products and data migration. We sign an NDA before kickoff, pricing is milestone-based, and you own the code and IP.
