Travel Software Development
Fares and availability change by the minute, and slow search or a clumsy checkout loses the booking - PixoBots builds travel and hospitality software that keeps up: booking engines, OTA platforms, GDS and channel integration, trip planning and hotel management, engineered for high traffic. Our dedicated developers use AI tools to draft supplier API integrations, data mappings and test suites faster, and review every change before it goes live.

How a booking engine works under the hood
A booking engine is a pipeline: search, price, hold, pay, confirm and service. Search fans out to one or more inventory sources, normalises the results and ranks them. Pricing then re-checks the selected option, because cached search prices go stale quickly in travel. A hold or provisional booking reserves the inventory, payment is taken, and only then is the booking confirmed with the supplier and a confirmation or ticket issued.
Each step can fail independently, so the engine must handle partial outcomes - a supplier confirms but the payment times out, or a price changes between search and booking. We design these flows with explicit booking states, idempotent supplier calls and reconciliation jobs, so nothing is charged without a confirmed booking and nothing is confirmed without a record of payment.
Supplier and GDS connectivity
Travel inventory comes from several kinds of sources: global distribution systems for air and hotel content, direct airline connections based on the NDC standard, bed banks and wholesalers, channel managers, and suppliers' own APIs. They differ in message formats, session handling, rate limits, cancellation rules and the commercial terms you have with each provider, which you contract directly.
We put an abstraction layer between your product and these connections, mapping every supplier into one internal model for availability, rates, policies and bookings. That lets you add or drop a supplier without rewriting the front end, apply your own markups and business rules consistently, and cache intelligently - caching search results to control look-to-book costs while always re-validating price and availability before payment.
Inventory, pricing and payments
Operators who own inventory - hotels, tour and activity providers, transfer companies - need allotments, release periods, rate plans, seasonal and occupancy-based pricing, and promotions managed in one place and pushed consistently to every channel. Resellers need markup rules by supplier, market, channel and customer type, plus currency handling for both display and settlement.
Payments add their own complexity: deposits and balance payments, refunds under each supplier's cancellation policy, multi-currency settlement and, often, payouts to suppliers. Card data should be handled by your payment provider through hosted fields or tokenisation, which typically keeps much of your platform outside PCI DSS scope. We also support strong customer authentication flows where regulations require them.
Itinerary management and traveller experience
After booking, the itinerary becomes the product. Travellers expect one view of flights, stays, transfers and activities, with documents, times in local time zones, and timely notifications when something changes. Behind that view, the platform needs to process schedule changes and cancellations from suppliers, re-price or re-accommodate where possible, and give support agents the full booking history in one screen.
Self-service changes and cancellations, mobile itineraries that work offline, and clear handling of personal and passport data under the privacy laws of your markets all reduce support load and build repeat bookings.
Common pitfalls when building a travel platform
The most frequent mistake is designing around the happy path. Real bookings involve supplier timeouts, duplicate requests, fare rule surprises, partial cancellations and schedule changes weeks after purchase, and each of those needs a defined state, a customer message and an operations task. Another is underestimating content: hotel descriptions, images, room-type mapping and deduplication across suppliers take sustained effort.
Teams also tend to load-test search but not booking, and to treat look-to-book ratios and supplier rate limits as an afterthought. Planning caching, throttling and monitoring of each supplier connection from the start avoids expensive surprises once traffic grows.
