What an Architecture Review Actually Covers
A useful tech audit looks at the system the way it really runs, not the way the old diagrams say it does. We work from read access to your repositories, cloud accounts and pipelines, plus short interviews with the engineers who maintain it.
Architecture and code
Service and module boundaries, coupling between them, and the data model. We look for hotspots - files that change often and are hard to change - because that is where defects and slow delivery concentrate, rather than scoring the whole codebase evenly.
Security and data
Authentication and authorisation, secrets handling, outdated or vulnerable dependencies, exposure of personal data, and whether backups have actually been restored recently.
Infrastructure and cost
Hosting topology, scaling limits, single points of failure, and where cloud spend goes - idle resources, oversized databases and data transfer are the usual suspects.
Delivery and team
How code reaches production: build and test pipelines, how often and how safely releases happen, how rollbacks work, and knowledge concentrated in one or two people.
Deliverables and How We Prioritise
What you receive
A written report with each finding rated by severity and backed by evidence from your own code or configuration; current-state and target architecture diagrams; a risk register; architecture decision records for the major choices; and a phased roadmap. We walk your leadership and engineers through it in a readout session so questions are answered while the context is fresh.
How recommendations are ranked
Risks that could cause a breach or data loss come first, whatever the effort. Everything else is weighed by business impact against effort and risk, with dependencies sequenced so early work unblocks later work. Quick wins go into the first phase to build momentum, and we deliberately avoid recommending a full rewrite when targeted refactoring will do.
When to Bring in Fractional Technical Leadership
A fractional CTO or engineering lead works with you part-time: setting technical direction, reviewing major design decisions, shaping hiring and holding vendors to account. It fits best when a non-technical founder is building a first product, when an engineering team has grown past the point where everyone can coordinate informally, when you are preparing for investor technical due diligence, or when you are between full-time technology leaders.
It is not the right answer for everything. If your team needs someone in daily stand-ups, managing people and owning delivery full-time, a permanent hire is usually better - and part of a fractional engagement can be helping you define that role and interview for it.
Pixel-perfect software, delivered at AI speed
PixoBots stands for Pixel & Bots. Our Bots are dedicated developers who work with AI tools: AI takes the repetitive work, a developer reviews every line, and the result is pixel-perfect.
Pixel
Polished UI and clean, tested code - detail is part of the job, not an afterthought.
Bots
Dedicated developers who join your team and use AI for boilerplate, tests and documentation.
Savings
AI-assisted delivery can save more than 50% of development cost compared with traditional development.
Consulting FAQ
What are your typical engagement models (Fixed vs T&M)?
We offer fixed-scope engagements for well-defined work and time-and-materials for evolving needs, and recommend the model that best fits your certainty and flexibility requirements.
What is a tech audit and how long does it take?
A tech audit reviews your architecture, code, security and processes to surface risks and opportunities. Most audits take two to four weeks depending on system size.
How do you handle IP ownership in consulting cases?
All deliverables, recommendations and any code we produce are your intellectual property, with no lock-in.
Do you offer fractional CTO/Engineering Lead services?
Yes. We provide fractional CTO and engineering leadership to set technical direction, mentor teams and guide delivery without a full-time hire.
What methodology do you use for strategic roadmapping?
We start from your business goals, assess current state, then prioritize initiatives into a phased, measurable roadmap with clear milestones and trade-offs.
How do you measure ROI on digital transformation?
We define KPIs up front - cost, speed, revenue, reliability - and track them against a baseline so the value of each initiative is measurable.
Can you assist with vendor selection and recruitment strategy?
Yes. We help evaluate vendors and tools objectively and advise on team structure, roles and hiring to build sustainable in-house capability.
Do you provide advisory support after implementation?
Yes. We offer ongoing advisory and fractional leadership so your team keeps benefiting from guidance as the strategy is executed.
How do you handle global team coordination and communication?
We establish clear processes, overlapping hours, shared tooling and regular checkpoints so distributed teams stay aligned and productive.
What is your approach to legacy code refactoring risks?
We reduce risk with comprehensive tests, incremental refactoring behind feature flags, and staged rollouts, to keep the live system stable while it is modernized.
