EdTech Software Development
Learning platforms slow down at term starts and exams, and disengaged learners drop out - PixoBots builds EdTech software designed for both: learning management systems, live virtual classrooms, assessments and proctoring, and student apps built for peak load and engagement. Our dedicated developers work with AI tools, so course-content imports, gradebook screens and load tests are drafted faster and reviewed by a developer before release.
Our EdTech software capabilities
- Learning management systems (LMS)
- Virtual classrooms & live video
- Assessments, quizzes & proctoring
- Student information systems (SIS)
- Gamification & adaptive learning
- Content authoring & SCORM/xAPI

Off-the-shelf LMS or a custom learning platform?
Most institutions do not need to build an LMS from scratch. Platforms such as Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard or Open edX already handle course shells, enrolment, gradebooks and discussion well, and a configured instance plus a few plugins is often the fastest, lowest-risk route. The question to ask is where your learning experience differs from what those products do out of the box.
Custom development earns its cost when the product itself is the differentiator - a startup selling a new way to learn, a training provider with unusual assessment or licensing rules, a cohort-based course with live and self-paced parts woven together, or a learner app that must feel like a consumer product rather than a portal. A common middle path is to keep a standard LMS as the system of record and build a custom front end, mobile app or assessment engine that talks to it through standard interfaces.
We help you make that call honestly in discovery: we map your must-have workflows against the platforms you are considering, flag where plugins will fight you, and only recommend custom code where it pays back.
Interoperability: LTI, SCORM, xAPI and your SIS
Learning technology lives in an ecosystem, so standards matter more than features. LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) lets a tool launch inside an LMS with single sign-on and pass grades back, which is how most institutions expect third-party tools to plug in. SCORM is the long-established packaging format for self-paced courses and still dominates corporate content libraries. xAPI records richer learning events - a simulation step, a video watched, a skill practised offline - into a Learning Record Store, and cmi5 bridges xAPI back into LMS-launched courses.
Beyond content standards there is the student information system. Rosters, sections, enrolments and final grades usually flow between the SIS and the LMS, often via OneRoster or a vendor API, and getting that sync reliable is a large share of the real integration effort. We design these flows with idempotent syncs, clear ownership of each field and reconciliation reports, so a mid-term roster change does not silently drop a student from a course.
Student data privacy and accessibility by design
Education data is sensitive, and much of it belongs to minors. Depending on where you operate, regimes such as FERPA and COPPA in the US and GDPR in the UK and EU shape what you can collect, who can see it, how long you keep it and what parents or students can request. We build to those expectations from the first sprint - data minimisation, role-based access for teachers, parents and admins, consent capture, audit logs, retention and deletion jobs, and encryption in transit and at rest - and we work alongside your legal or data-protection adviser, who remains the one to confirm your obligations.
Accessibility is equally non-negotiable in education, and public institutions are often required to meet WCAG. That means keyboard-operable players and quizzes, captions and transcripts for video, screen-reader-friendly maths and diagrams, sufficient contrast and timed assessments that support extra-time accommodations. It is far cheaper to design these in than to retrofit them after a procurement review.
Scaling for term start and exam-day peaks
EdTech load is spiky in a way most business software is not. Traffic can sit quietly for weeks and then surge when a term opens, an assignment deadline hits at midnight or thousands of students start the same timed exam at 9am. Systems sized for the average day fail at exactly the moment that matters most.
We plan for the peak: load testing against realistic exam scenarios, autoscaling application tiers, caching for course content, queues for grading and notifications, and autosave of in-progress answers so a dropped connection never costs a student their work. For live classes we use proven real-time video infrastructure rather than building media servers from scratch, and we add monitoring and runbooks so your team knows what to watch during the busiest hours of the academic year.
Pixel-perfect software, delivered at AI speed
PixoBots stands for Pixel & Bots. Our Bots are dedicated developers who work with AI tools: AI takes the repetitive work, a developer reviews every line, and the result is pixel-perfect.
Pixel
Polished UI and clean, tested code - detail is part of the job, not an afterthought.
Bots
Dedicated developers who join your team and use AI for boilerplate, tests and documentation.
