Linux & Docker

Linux and Docker containerization by dedicated engineers who work with AI tools. AI drafts Dockerfiles, Compose files and shell scripts and helps triage build and runtime logs, while your engineer reviews, hardens and tests every image - so lean, secure, reproducible environments are ready sooner.

Solve the "Works on My Machine" Problem

Docker allows you to package an application with all of its dependencies into a standardized unit for software development. That way your code behaves consistently across development, staging and production environments.

At PixoBots, we specialize in Linux server hardening and Docker optimization. We create multi-stage builds to reduce image size, implement rootless containers for enhanced security, and manage complex stacks with Docker Compose.

gpp_good Production-Ready Images

What Goes Into a Hardened Image

A Dockerfile that builds is not the same as an image that is ready for production. These are the details that are easy to skip under deadline pressure.

Minimal bases, fewer vulnerabilities

We start from slim or distroless base images that contain only the runtime your app needs - no shell, package manager or compilers in the final layer. Multi-stage builds keep SDKs and build tools in an earlier stage, so they never ship. Base images are pinned by digest and rebuilt on a schedule, so security patches arrive deliberately rather than as surprise changes.

Least privilege at runtime

Containers run as a non-root user, with a read-only root filesystem where possible, dropped Linux capabilities and explicit memory and CPU limits. Secrets are injected at runtime from your secret store and never baked into a layer, because anything written to a layer can be extracted from the image later.

Know exactly what you ship

Every image is scanned for known vulnerabilities in the pipeline, and builds can produce a software bill of materials (SBOM) - a machine-readable list of every package inside the image. When the next widely reported library vulnerability appears, you can answer which images are affected by querying data instead of opening containers one by one.

Local development that matches production

Compose files mirror production services - the same images, the same database engine and version, the same environment variables - so developers can reproduce production bugs on a laptop. Health checks, correct signal handling for graceful shutdown and logging to standard output make the same image behave well under Compose, a cloud container service or Kubernetes.

help_outline FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of containerizing our application with Docker? expand_more
Docker packages your application and its dependencies into one image that runs the same way on a laptop, a test server and production. That removes environment drift, speeds up onboarding and deployments, makes rollbacks simple, and lets you run more services on the same hardware than with traditional virtual machines.
Can you containerize a legacy application? expand_more
Yes, most legacy applications can be containerized. We assess dependencies, configuration and state, move settings into environment variables, keep data in volumes or managed databases, and build lean multi-stage images. Some apps need small code changes first, such as writing logs to standard output or removing hard-coded file paths.
Do we need Kubernetes, or is Docker Compose enough? expand_more
Docker Compose is enough for many single-server or small multi-container applications, development environments and internal tools. Kubernetes becomes worthwhile when you need automatic scaling, self-healing across several nodes, rolling releases without taking the service offline and many services managed by multiple teams. We often start with Compose and move to Kubernetes when the workload justifies it.
How do you secure Docker containers and Linux servers? expand_more
We use minimal, trusted base images, scan images for known vulnerabilities in the build pipeline, run containers as non-root users with only the capabilities they need, and keep secrets out of images. On the host we harden SSH, apply firewall rules and automatic security updates, and restrict access by least privilege.
Should we use Alpine-based images to keep them small? expand_more
Alpine images are small, but Alpine uses the musl C library instead of glibc, which can cause subtle compatibility or performance differences for some runtimes and native packages, such as Python wheels or Node.js native modules. Slim Debian-based or distroless images are often a safer default. We choose per application and test the result rather than optimising for image size alone.
How much does Docker and Linux DevOps work cost? expand_more
Cost depends on scope rather than a fixed price. The main drivers are the number of services to containerize, legacy complexity, the target environment such as a single server or a cloud platform, registry and CI/CD integration, security requirements and ongoing support. PixoBots quotes transparent, milestone-based pricing after a short discovery call.
